In 2004, two young guys decided to try to help small businesses find a way to get online. It was the year of the iPod, the year Bluetooth first made a real appearance, one megapixel phones and plasma TVs were selling at about $4000 for a 42 inch.
They has a dream that your local cafe, hairdresser, barber, dentist, pharmacist and mechanic would be able to have a website one day to find and retain customers. As the two pounded the pavement trying to convince small business they needed to set the trend it was obvious the time wasn't right yet.
Fast forward to 2010 and with the popularity of social media, mobile phones and online marketing everyone wanted a piece of the action. The challenge, however, was a different one: there was an oversupply of web designers, search engine optimisers and online marketers - and small business owners were totally confused.
Most agencies were charging far too much for many things that just weren't relevant to small business. This was the problem.
And Searchwords was born.
